So to answer your primary question: "how to restore things to the way they were 2 days ago" - the answer unfortunately is "You can't unless you have some kind if backup of your contact / calendar data. An IMAP account syncs all email folders the server and as long as those items were not deleted from the server, they would always be accessible by email client It also explains why OE Classic found your email data. An OST file associated with an IMAP account would lose all contact / calendar data when the account is configured again since this data does not sync with the server. That being the case, it also explains the loss of your contact / address book data. ost file is proprietary to Outlook desktop. That indicates that you are using the Outlook desktop program (part of Office or as a stand-alone version) - it is definitely not Outlook Express since an. Have to apologize, a fellow counter-part brought a very important detail to my attention that I somehow overlooked when reading your response which was in reference to the followingĪnd when it said it detected a damaged file, it was: C:users/JimCsiszar/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Outlook/. I'd love any guidance you could give, thanks. So I would still love to restore things to the way they were 2 days ago, but after re-installing my Win 10 perhaps that not an option anymore. I did find a partial workaround- I was able to download OE Classic 3.1, sign into my account, and most of my old emails did load- though not formatted as I would wish, and it looks like I no longer have my groups or address book settings. so yes I think I was still running Outlook Express, at least as of 2 days ago. so again it said Outlook and not Windows Live Mail. And when it said it detected a damaged file, it was: C:users/JimCsiszar/AppData/Local/Microsoft/Outlook/.

The error message i kept getting the last two days (prior to re-installing Win 10) definitely said "Outlook Express cannot be opened," it never mentioned anything about Windows Live Mail. And frankly it's too long ago for me to remember with precision what happened with the updates, but I don't remember ever having any issues with my email during the upgrades, or having to change anything with Outlook Express. So when you say was it a "fresh install" I guess it wasn't, because I was always upgrading from a previous version of Windows.

I'm pretty sure it originally had Windows Vista, then I upgraded to Windows 7, then Windows 10 about a year ago. I have used my same Dell PC for 10+ years (i know, too long :-). Unfortunately System Restore is not an option, when I first installed Windows 10 about a year ago, looks like I never established a restore point.

However I do not particularly like either interface and more importantly, I would love to get Outlook Express (and all my old emails/settings) back on my PC if at all possible- could someone show me how to do this, if it's possible? I'm a computer novice and obviously the email account still "works," as I continue to receive new emails both on my phone, and on the Spectrum Webmail service. I can still get my current emails to my phone, and to my Webmail account through Spectrum. And I understand Microsoft no longer supports or updates Outlook Express.

Perhaps I shouldn't have done this, as now my Outlook Express is completely gone. I have used Outlook Express as my email client for (I believe) approximately 10 years.įor some reason I hadn't been able to open Outlook Express for 2+ days.
